The spine plays a role in supporting the entire body, protecting the spinal cord, and the body's mobility during movement. Throughout our life, the spine can go through various physical processes of deformation or destruction of tissues, as a result of a sedentary lifestyle, physiologically inappropriate postures, injuries, overuse, infections, and aging. Here's what Dr. Roxana Anca Macrin, a specialist in General Medicine, Integrative and Transpersonal Psychotherapy, has to say about these conditions.

Spinal dysfunctions can cause local, loco-regional pain – caused by the contraction of nearby muscles – or pain in other parts of the body. A fact that is less known to the general public is this: the brain communicates through spinal nerves. These nerves are, in fact, extensions of the brain, which coordinate and control the activity of the entire body.

Thus, a brain dysfunction or a problem with the spine can manifest itself with pressure points on the nerves, followed by inflammation of the nerve endings that can disrupt the functioning of other organs, the consequence being pain and diseases of the internal organs.

Some examples:

  • headaches or a pain/tingling in the hands, stomach pain, intestines, heart, in the chest area, all of these can be caused by damage to the spine, in the cervical area;
  • pain in the thighs, hips, sensitivity in the legs, can be caused by damage to the spine, lumbar area;
  • vision problems, ringing in the ears, difficulty swallowing, can be caused by a dysfunction of the intervertebral disc.
  • Emotional states, such as extreme stress or psychological problems, can affect the organs of the human body, manifesting themselves physically, evolving physically as psychosomatic illness. These are in agreement with the words of C.G. Jung: "Failures in the soul can lead to major disorders in the body, just as, reciprocally, a physical condition can lead to suffering in the soul"

Professor Masaru Emoto, as well as other researchers who have analyzed the effects of sounds on forms, have highlighted how sounds influence the crystallization of forms and the effect on them. We can therefore understand that thoughts, just like words, have effects on our body and especially on the bones that contain structures that crystallize. Bones store information. What we think affects our bones. Stubbornness and pride are the main reasons for this type of condition.

The head and neck are related to decisions in thinking and speaking

Any major difficulty in making decisions can affect the teeth and cervical vertebrae. Neck pain is often the consequence of a psychological trauma. This problem can be based on an excess of responsibilities or problems. Problems related to the thoracic spine indicate unresolved emotional and affective problems, whose accumulated energy has been stagnating in that area for too long.

Permanent stress, pressure, pressing problems increase the risk of developing scoliosis. Uncomfortable circumstances cause a vicious posture or, in other words, excessive stress, at home or at work, bends the back. From the thoracic level, such a disorder can be transmitted to the cardio-respiratory circuit, and at the lumbar level, problems related to one's own vitality are specific.

Stress can cause intense pain in the lumbar region, at the waist. If you suffer from this type of problem for no apparent reason and you have not gained weight, most likely psychological factors are at the root. Stress and worries frequently occur due to professional or personal problems. The most serious bone diseases usually occur in the lower limbs.

“Events are not causes, but effects of the mental state”

I end these lines with a quote from Valeriu Popa, a passage that happily summarizes the connection and influence of the mental state and the physical body: “Think that events are not causes, but effects of the mental state in which you indulge. Illness should not be considered a punishment or an injustice. It is the most righteous act in our existence, because it was generated by our mental and emotional behavior. Through thought, man gets sick and through thought he heals himself. Any illness starts in the mind. Many sick people prepare themselves mentally, with effort, for years, for a definitive illness. Nothing manifests in the body without having a corresponding mental prototype. True healing begins the moment we think about what we would like to do when we regain our health.”
