Early diagnosis, essential for the effective treatment of cancer

Treating cancer in advanced stages is like a lottery, but discovered in its early stages, the disease can be defeated. “That is why, even when you think you have a healthy lifestyle, it is vital to have preventive medical tests,” said Professor Dr. Bob Djavan in an interview for Digi24. Periodically, urologist Bob Djavan, from Rudolfinerhaus Foundation Hospital Austria, also offers consultations in Romania.

Professors Bob Djavan from Austria and Andre Philippe Davody from France consult Romanian patients at the “Dr. Victor Babe?” Diagnostic and Treatment Center – “Dr. Victor Babe?” Foundation – in Bucharest, as part of a major international campaign to fight prostate cancer, a disease that represents the second cause of mortality in men, after lung cancer, and specialists are interested in detecting and treating it in its early stages.

“We want to be able to diagnose prostate cancer as early as possible”. Professor Dr. Bob Djavan, who works at Rudolfinerhaus Foundation Hospital Austria and New York University USA, and Prof. Dr. Andre Philippe Davody from the American Hospital of Paris will provide consultations to Romanian patients. Eight patients who were operated on in Vienna by Professor Djavan will also be consulted. The consultations will be coordinated by our doctor, Dr. Seyed Aghamiri, primary care physician in urology, doctor of medical sciences, head of the surgery department at the Dr. Victor Babe? Foundation”, the president and general director of the Foundation, Prof. Dr. Petre Calistru, told News.ro.

One of the objectives of Romanian doctors is the early detection of prostate cancer, a disease that is the second cause of mortality in men, after lung cancer.

“We want to succeed in having an early diagnosis of prostate cancer. This will be established according to a protocol implemented by the respective doctors in their hospitals. There will also be eight patients operated on by Dr. Djavan in Vienna. It is a special probe, like in breast cancer, used to detect the disease as early as possible”, explained Professor Calistru.

Doctors from Vienna and Paris provide regular specialist consultations in university centers in Europe, as well as in America.

Through the collaboration between the university centers in Vienna and Paris and the “Victor Babe?” Diagnostic and Treatment Center, patients can have access to high-performance medical services as well as modern investigation and treatment techniques, and, where necessary, they will be able to have access to high-performance medical services from abroad, including surgical interventions, added the president of the Foundation.

Romanian patients who will go for consultations will also be able to receive treatments for other types of urological disorders or indications for investigation and treatment.

Prof. Dr. Bob Djavan is a leading expert in the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer, but he also consults patients with other urological conditions such as: kidney, bladder, testicular cancer (urological oncology), prostate adenoma, urinary tract stones, urinary incontinence and erectile dysfunction.

Professor Doctor Bob Djavan is the director of the urology department at Vienna Urology Rudolfinerhaus Foundation Hospital Austria, director of the urology department at New York University USA and President of the European Regional Association of Urology.

Bob Djavan: “Cancer sets in long before you see a doctor and get diagnosed. It’s due to a combination of factors. Nutrition is very important. Talk to a nutritionist, a doctor. The way we eat is one of the reasons why we get cancer, stress levels are also key. Stressed people have a more fragile immune system and this can play a role in the onset of cancer. Genetic factors also play a role. If you know you have a family predisposition, go to the doctor for early diagnosis. Go to the doctor, go for tests. As long as there is no perfect cure for cancer, early diagnosis, which may sound simplistic, is the most effective method.”
